This one is going into a niche in a wall. Back in 1994, I did 5 tile murals for this couple and they’ve just sold that house and moved into a condo. Unlike almost every mural I’m doing these days, this one is not china paint. It’s cone 4 oxidation glazes (not underglazes). Every color is a different glaze, and I invented the recipes for a lot of them. I counted 28 of them on this piece. The color in the photo is a little off toward yellow from what it really looks like.
I’m having a one-person show that opens this coming Friday evening, February 5th, from 4 to 7 pm. It’s at the Red Sky Gallery in the Lake Forest Park Town Center. That’s the upper level, back, and the real address is 17171 Bothell Way NE A011, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155.
These two pieces will be the outdoor sign, front and back, for a new restaurant opening in the next few months on Capital Hill in Seattle. It will be in the Cafe Presse space, near Seattle U. This will be the first restaurant owned by Grayson Corrales, former pastry chef at Junebaby. It will feature the cuisine of Galicia, where her family originated. I just met with her today and we’re going to design some other tile accents for the interior of the space.
This photo just came to me from the client. It’s about 8’ tall and 5.5’ wide. The island in the distance is Molokini, so this would be a view from Maui. Lots of tropical flowers and a whale breaching offshore.
This sign went home just before my holiday sale. It’s 4’ x 3’, done on 3” x 6” staggered subway tile. It’s a replica of a London Underground sign and goes in a private car collection garage.
Just a reminder that our open studio sale is coming up this weekend. It will be three days this year to spread people out, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm each day, at 105 N 200th St. Shoreline WA 98133. Call 206-919-2664 if you need directions or details.
We'll have Rupa Palasamudram's functional porcelain and raku pottery along with my tiles and acrylic paintings. Bring your friends and buy local! We have plenty of stock.
Every once in a while I get a nice BIG one! This is 5.5’ wide and 8’ high. It will cover one whole wall in a bathroom. The vanity will go in front of where the white space is, and there will be a toilet in front of the left side of the wall. The tile setter will trim the edges and the top to fit the wall. This is all china paint on ceramic tile. The island on the horizon is Molokini. Just the kind of job I love. For some reason unknown to me, my web site software is squashing this picture.
This little tile job just went home. It is based on an antique Japanese woodblock print from the client’s collection. It’s on 6'“ x 6” almond tile, done with china paint.
I’m having a show of my paintings that opens November 6. It’s at Brace Point Pottery, which is owned by my friend Loren Lukens. Showing with my paintings will be wood carvings by another friend, Kurt Johnson. Loren and Kurt and I have been hiking and camping together for over 35 years.
About two weeks ago, I hiked up Denny Creek to Melakwa Lake. It was a perfect fall day, and it had snowed just a bit the night before. On the way up, I passed a peak called The Tooth.
