This shower features the clients’ three dogs on the beach at their cabin on Priest Lake, Idaho. Not all the dogs were alive at the same time, but they are here! This was all done with china paint on commercial tile, from photos they provided.
Here’s a new one. It’s a flowering cherry tree in a Japanese sume brush style. It’s done on 12” x 24” porcelain tiles for one wall of a shower. The yardstick indicates where the tile setter will trim the tiles to fit the space. I never trim the tiles ahead of time because whenever I have done that, they have never fit right.
I’ve done this Heron & Friends design many times, usually for either a kitchen backsplash or the back wall of a shower enclosure. Here it’s little bigger than I normally make it and installed in a spa or sauna.
These three tiles are based on tiles the clients saw in Portugal.
Here's a 4' x 2' tile piece I sent off last week. It went to San Juan Capistrano, California. It will go next to the entrance to a new memory care facility. SJC has an ordinance that specifies that any new commercial building has to have some reference to the history fo the town. This depicts the historic Forster Mansion, which is a few blocks away. It's from several photos from the SJC Historical Society archives, and also features references to the area's agriculture and includes, on the balcony, the famous ghost, who always seems to be smoking a cigar. It's done with china paint in sepia tones to replicate an old photo. Dealing with the Historical commission reminded me why I don't do public art, but I love projects like this.
This is another small kitchen backsplash mural from the Shop page that just went home. The only addition form the stock image was that they wanted me to add a particular name to the vinegar bottle.
This little backsplash mural just went home. It’s one of the images on my Shop page, so you could order one just like it. It’s a bit different style for me than what I usually do, but I’ll do any style anybody wants. This one is china paint, like almost all of my work these days, but unlike most of what I do, you could actually make something look very much like this with glazes or underglazes.
This little piece will be going into the back wall of a very small shower. It’s only 29” wide. It’s not painted all the way out to the edges of the tile because it will be trimmed to fit in a niche of field tile.
A nice piece that just went out the door this week. This is from a picture of Lake Superior that the client sent me. This will go into the back wall of their shower. It’s china paint on commercial tile. You’re not going to get this kind of variety or subtlety of color with any other ceramic medium.
This is a piece I did in 2013. I went and photographed it when it was installed, but they just sent me this picture again to tell me how much they like it. A nice New Year’s present. I love it when people like living with my work.
