This picture just came in. It’s a small backsplash I did back in 2019, showing Mt. Rainier. It’s an unusual one for me, as this is cone 4 oxidation glazes, not china paint. I used to do a lot of this, but hardly any these days. The best part about getting this picture is that the owners at the same time commissioned another mural for their bathroom.
This is a new rendition of a catalogue image I’ve done several times before. On the Shop page of this web site, it’s much smaller, but I can make any image fit any space for you. This one is 4’ x 4’, and has a few dragonflies added to it. It’s china paint on a plain white gloss ceramic tile.
The sale will be a little different this year (isn't everything?). Just my tiles and paintings and Rupa Palasamudram's pots. We'll have all the doors and windows open, masks required, one party of any size at a time. To accommodate more parties, we'll be open everyday from Saturday November 28 through Sunday December 6, 10 am - 5 pm. To book a time slot call or text 206-919-2664 or email pjlewing@comcast.net. And sorry, no treats this year.
It's been a tough year for all of us. We're counting on you to buy local this season. And November 29 is Artist Sunday
Another small kitchen backsplash that just got shipped out. This one is actually based on one of my acrylic paintings, and is done with china paints on commercial subway tile. The staggered tiles make it a little bit harder to paint on, but not much.
This tile panel just went home today. It’s 3’ x 4’, on 12” x 12” porcelain tiles. It’s going to be installed, framed, on an exterior wall of a new house. The clients had originally wanted a kitchen backsplash, but plans changed. They sent me a photo of Mt. Rainier with wildflowers as a possible subject for this mural. I suggested we use an acrylic painting of mine called “New Day in Paradise” because it was more dramatic than their picture. That painting was used on photos I took at dawn on my 70th birthday, above Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier. They then suggested the addition of the Bible verse. This is china paint on commercial tile.
This is a little kitchen backsplash mural that just went off to a home in Vancouver, WA. This is one of my standard catalogue images, probably the most popular one in the bunch. I’ve probably painted this image a dozen times for different people. It’s the custom tile mural equivalent of throwing mugs. Each one’s different though, and individually hand painted.
This little mural, on 12” tiles, will be installed on a fence. It will be directly outside a kitchen window and will make it look more like the view out the rest of the windows in this house. The colors in this photo are pretty off. It’s nowhere near that yellow.
Here's a tile piece that went home the other day. It's 4.5' x 4.5' and will go in the back of a shower in a new house in eastern Washington. It shows the clients' three dogs (only one of which is still with them) at their place on Priest Lake, Idaho. It's china paint on 6" ceramic tile.
This 8” x 8” tile is this year’s installment of a job I’ve been doing every year since about 2006. The seniors at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, WA have a contest every year to design a tile for their class, which I reproduce on tile, and it's then installed on a wall in the lobby of the school. Some years the design is nothing special, other years it’s really imaginative. This year’s is one of those imaginative ones.
I posted a picture of this tile piece about two months ago when it first came out of the kiln. Here's what it looks like now that it's been installed.
