I haven't been in the studio much lately. I've been out doing what I refer to as image harvesting. I did a three-day backpack trip, two nights at Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier (thanks for the birthday present, Ruth!) and a four-day canoe trip on Ross Lake in the North Cascades. Here's a picture from Mt. Rainier. I'm planning another backpack trip for next week, so I think I'll have plenty of images to work from this winter.
Last weekend I did the Bellevue Arts Museum Artsfair for the second time with paintings. Last time was two years ago. I used to do that fair every year back when I was a potter and on into when I switched to tiles, from the mid-70s through the mid-90s. It was a huge success, the best fair I've had in many years. I sold 11 paintings, including a couple of nice big ones. Here's a picture of one of the big ones and one of the better paintings I've done so far. It was really great to spend three days talking to people about favorite hiking spots, and meeting lots of satisfied customers from years past, some with paintings, others with tile projects and even a few with pots. Most of this month I'll be "image harvesting", hiking and shooting photos.
Last week I posted a new walk-in shower on the Bathrooms page. Once again, it's one of those pieces that surround you, so it's impossible to see it all in a photograph. And this one is a really tine room. So here's a video of it.
This little bathroom is in the same house as the Puget Sound Underwater shower that I posted a video of last week. The Coyote shower that's on the Bathrooms page is also in this same house. This forest one is not tile, though. It's acrylic paint on the sheet rock. There are more than 40 forest creatures in here, including a Susquatch, and a banana slug on the toilet paper holder.
I'm going to try something new here and I hope it works. This three-wall walk-in shower that's on the home page is shown there as a three-panel still photo. But the piece was conceived, and you experience it, as a wraparound image. What I really need is virtual reality, but until that comes along, this video will have to do.
Here's a fun photo that we took when we were shooting the Coyote walk-in shower that's on the Bathrooms page.
Since I last posted, I've put a lot more pictures up on the web site. I think it's almost done. I'm really pleased with the new Squarespace system. It's really easy to use and I think looks really good.
I'm excited to debut my new website. You'll see more portfolio pieces added weekly for the next few weeks. Please enjoy looking around my website and contact me with any questions!
And Kudos to Shannon Black for setting it up for me. I'll try to keep it updated as I go along.
